The world-leader in Canine Myotherapy education, treatment, and research
Welcome to Galen Myotherapy
We specialise in treating dogs with chronic muscular pain; enabling enhanced mobility and health through detailed postural and environment assessment, unique massage techniques and rehabilitative exercise management.
Established in the UK by Julia Robertson in 2002, Galen Myotherapy has always been at the forefront of imparting knowledge and interpreting how behaviour and muscle pain manifest in our dogs. Our global organisation is passionate about enriching the lives of dogs through treatment, research and education.
We’re the most well-established training organisation in canine health, providing externally accredited courses, online courses CPDs and workshops for all levels of learners and canine professionals.
We transform dogs' lives like Rafiki below through targeted massage techniques
and rehabilitative exercise management.
After three treatments
In 2003 4 year old Rafiki was going to be put to sleep due to her pain levels that were not being improved by medication. With Galen Myotherapy she went on to live a full and happy life until she was 17 years old!
Working closely with experts in animal health we’ve inspired many of the luminaries that have gone on to be leaders in the industry.
Galen Myotherapy is an incredibly powerful manual technique that delivers measurable therapeutic benefit to so many pets. As a GP Veterinarian with an interest in better managing pain, I knew that we were missing a large piece of the puzzle when treating dogs with chronically painful conditions such as osteoarthritis. Medication in the way of pain relief and anti-inflammatories is important, but there is so much more we should be doing to help pets maintain their postural strength and function.
I discovered Galen while doing a deep dive into the world of pain research and it has fundamentally transformed the way I see and treat patients. This led to a growing awareness of a gap in the care options offered to many of these pets, which in turn let to the development of one of Australia’s first dedicated home-based Palliative Care support services. Our team is now growing nationally and are determined to help owners have access to better pain management and support at end of life. Galen has been an integral part of this journey for me and I am excited to think more pet owners here are now able to learn about this support and care. It is so needed!

// OUR GLOBAL REACH
Galen Myotherapy in Australia
Galen Myotherapy works in Australia with our international partner, Maxine Corry-Thomas at Canine Senses. Therefore, we're excited to provide the opportunity to train as a Galen Myotherapist in Australia.
Maxine studied and qualified with Galen in 2011 and very shortly after her graduation she and her family moved to Australia. Maxine has successfully established Galen Myotherapy in Australia and has a fantastic reputation for helping dogs with chronic conditions.
The school is identical to the Galen Myotherapy course run in the UK with the same high standards and Galen values. This includes our unique Positive PACT® treatment protocol which ensures all dogs being treated have a ‘choice’.

The course will give you an in-depth understanding of the link between pain and behaviour based on 20 years of experience and research. You’ll learn about Galen Myotherapy’s revolutionary treatment protocols and how massage therapy and rehabilitative exercise management can form a comprehensive and effective treatment plan for conditions such as osteoarthritis, repetitive strain injuries, ongoing and undiagnosed lameness and mobility issues associated with obesity. Discover the importance of postural and functional movement assessment when evaluating how a dog presents including compensatory and loading issues. Learn techniques to repattern and re-enliven effective kinetic chains to enhance mobility and give clear guidance to dog owners on the impact of their dog’s environment on their musculoskeletal health.
Galen Myotherapy advanced treatment protocols are a result of years of study, 1,000’s of treatments and close observations and assessments of the dogs, before, during and after their treatment.
Galen Myotherapy promotes health and treats chronic muscular pain in dogs through detailed postural assessment along with the understanding of functional movement which we incorporate into our highly effective treatment programmes. We use specialised massage techniques and rehabilitative strengthening techniques, to manage the chronic muscular pain and inflammation that is caused by the many different conditions that are so common in a dog’s life.
Galen Myotherapy specialises in treating dogs with painful chronic muscular pain. Applying the treatment will be uncomfortable for them to receive, therefore giving them choice allows them autonomy and gives them the agency to choose where they are treated.
This protocol allows us to treat areas on the dog that we would not otherwise be able to positively influence due to they know they have control over their body.
Galen Myotherapy has quite literally changed Ozzey’s life, from a prematurely old and painful dog into one that is so, so much happier. I was also shown how I can help to maintain his condition so I too can help him. He has top-ups every few months but I have learnt to know when he is starting to go downhill. I feel that I am in much more control of his health and well-being!
